our LOCATION says it all …

alexandra, central otago, new zealand

matangi station MTB…

…is just on the edge of Alexandra. It’s the rocky backdrop to the town with the clock on the hill. Its dusty thyme covered hills are where all the riding takes place.

If you’re driving in for the day head for Little Valley Road. Go over the old historic one lane railway bridge and slightly up the hill on the left you will see the carpark.

The summers here are hot and dry. Our annual rainfall on the Station is around 300mm (Australia’s annual rainfall is 419mm). Did you know that in Maori, Matangi means gentle wind? A breeze in these hills feels great in the heat.

Winters are cold. Frosty mornings give way to stunning bluebird ride days. Riding all year round is a bonus for us.

Getting here

If you’re from out of town, it’s likely you’ll have to drive a wee way to get to Matangi - make sure you aim for Alexandra. The closest airports are Queenstown and Dunedin, or you could even road trip from Christchurch. No matter where you land, hire a rental car or jump on a shuttle. Head for the CLOCK on the hill at Alexandra, Central Otago, New Zealand.
